FAILURE#1

In the six months of me being at IPU, you have always seen me talking about my achievements or when I got selected for an internship, society or clubs. Now I will tell you all about my first failure at IPU.

I had one aim since 2 January 2022, the day my college started, that till the end of my term in 2025, every kid of India will know this college name and would study in class 11th and 12th to aim for IPU Main Campus as they aim for IIT, and IIITs and NITs.

Every college has its Training and Placement cell, IPU’s main campus has 12 schools in the main campus and my school has its own TnP cell ( TnP, USCT), every year interviews are held for freshers and sophomore year students where the top 2-3 students are chosen for the core team of TnP cell, training and placement cell is the backbone of our college as placements determine the name of the college. The third-year and fourth-year students in the placement cell are very awesome and give a great opinion of various stuff and one of the pieces of advice I still follow to this day is to “MARK YOUR PRESENCE” everywhere you go.

So just like every year, this year also interviews were held on 10th June 2022, me being like that little boy sitting there and seeing the TnP core team sitting right beside the table as my idols and the place where I will be for sure next year. Since the day I joined the training and placement cell groups (i.e. 14th March 2022), I have been analysing their data and trying to find conclusions and solutions for the same (I’ll attach the document where I did that at the end). I was pretty obsessed with it if I am not lying just like I was with being a doctor and then later getting into a top IIT.

So the interview started and here it goes:

Recruiter(r): So Harshit, what are your skills?

Harshit(h): Good afternoon to everyone, So my skills are playing chess, content creation, graphic designing and other than that my main skill is to collect and analyse data and try to find solutions and conclusions for the same, I did something similar with USS Chess Club.

(r): How did you do it with the chess club?

(h): “I explained to them how chess club was before freshers joined and how now we are getting podiums and wins now”

(r): So other than chess, what else do you do?

(h): I am a part of the science club where we have organised 2 events right now, and other than I am doing an internship in excel automation and I write my blog named harshitmittal.com.

(r): so do you know how to develop a website?

(h): no, I don’t know how to develop a website, my father developed it for me on WordPress and it is very user-friendly I upload my blogs there, and you can change themes according to your choice easily.

(r): so which team of TnP you would be interested in?

(h): I would be interested in the database or communications team.

(r): but harshit, I have seen your content work, you write pretty great, why not the content team?

(h): I am been doing content since the start in science club, E cell( entrepreneurship cell) and on my website so I am pretty saturated with content and want to focus on other skills.

(r): to be honest e cell doesn’t have that much content work so you can easily do the content here.
(r)*(the other recruiter): plus if we tell you to handle LinkedIn or write a message for TnP you would write right?

(h): yes of course I will write.

(r): So how much time can you devote to TnP and how far do you live?

(h): in a day or a week?

(r): In a day

(h): I can devote from 30 minutes to an hour to TnP in a day and I live in Pitampura but soon I will be applying for the hostels as soon as applications open up in august.

(r): okay thank you!

So this is how the interview went, everyone was very comforting and I didn’t get panicky and all even though internally I was very tense, other than a couple of recruiters, most of the recruiters couldn’t see my analysis that I did in training and placement cell, so I will upload it here so that everyone can see it and do comment how did you like the analysis.

So how was this a failure?

sadly results came in today and I was selected as a volunteer but not as a core member in TnP, some might say that it is not a very important position but for me, this position meant a lot as I know that people on that position can create a revolution in the college if they want to. I am grateful to TnP for such an honest and successful interview and I hope next year I become the core member and will try to accomplish what I dreamt of since the moment I entered in IPU main campus. Till then I will focus on sharpening my skills and learning new skills every day and try to climb up in the positions here in TnP.

  1. That’s great Harshit. We learn from our failures, rather it’s not failure in your case. You will surely achieve the best. Keep toning your skills. You are doing great.
