ENDING OF THE BEGINNING’22

From online exams to offline classes, from internships to semester classes, from university societies to captaining IPU, from being an introvert to *drumroll* still being an introvert, my first year in GGSIPU is about to end soon. With only final exams left, I feel it is the right time to share my experience in my first year at this university….

CAN YOU SURVIVE IN UNI BEING AN INTROVERT?

I am going to be honest, if you are an introvert and make fewer friends, you can still blossom in university, you don’t have to necessarily mark some impression with your year students, especially in your branch, but at the same time, you should have a positive bond with seniors, and some professors under which you are interested to do your research work etc. I am a guy who doesn’t have like 20-30 friends in my branch, but at the same time have good work relations with most of my colleagues and seniors.

 SOCIETIES AND DEPARTMENTAL CLUBS

The second half of my first year was all about departmental clubs. I was enthusiastic about the Training and Placement Cell (TnP) as I like the way it works which I will cover later.

It has been roughly around 2 months since I have worked in TnP, and the way we up our LinkedIn game or improve our college as a brand name via social handles, and contact HRs, This all excites me to a whole new level and I recommend that if you like logical reasoning or mind games, then TnP is a place to be as it is like a real-life application of the logical reasoning questions we do.

Other than that I have not experienced much about other department clubs, I would be able to experience them as I go forward in my second year.

“OUR UNOFFICIAL IPU CHESS CLUB” has been active at least since I joined, we have participated and defeated some great colleges and we continue our reign and keep on improving, still hoping to officiate soon though. Other than the elite of our college performing great, we have like a chess fever in university as I see people playing chess near Nescafe, Amul, canteen every time I pass through there which is a big improvement for “just a board game”. My vision for the club is to make as many new people join the game as possible and hope that IPU becomes a powerhouse in chess.

If you are going to join IPU as a batch of 2026, I recommend you to join and explore as many societies and clubs as possible and try to find your hidden talent, and you can always mail or DM me if you want to ask about any club or even in general.

 RESEARCH

In my very first year only, I was able to gain a bit of research experience. A huge thanks to my second-year seniors and PhD scholars for guiding me in this. The professors here at IPU though prefer you to have a hostel before they start mentoring you but at the same time, I would say don’t lose hope, try to write a draft or review paper and prove your dedication even if you are a day scholar to professors. I won’t reveal the name of the club but they preferred hostellers over day scholars but soon enough when they realised the work strength of students, they realised who works and who doesn’t, so if you live far and is not able to get a hostel soon enough, you can still do somewhat equivalent or even better than the student who lives in the hostel or near the university.

 CONCLUSION

If I have to conclude my first year in one sentence, I would say

“This college means everything and nothing to me at the same time.”
