It has now been a while since the beginning of my sophomore year in September. After my previous post, I went into hibernation and tried to concentrate more on where I was and how I could get better every day. Recently, I spoke with an IITian on the phone, and he told me that the only way to outperform an IITian is to do everything including academics, research, internships, and positions of responsibility in college—as a non-IITian. This advice seemed realistic because, while my college won’t have the same brand value as IIT Delhi, the brand value of me as a person can be more than a person from IIT Delhi.
So, what’s new after my freshman year??
ACADEMICS AND RESEARCH
The professors I have in my sophomore year are among the best I have ever encountered; if you get along with professors, they will be very helpful to you. At the same time, they are opposite to students who won’t attend their classes. In addition, each student at our university is assigned a mentor who is a professor, who we can work with to conduct research and receive help. Our university’s decision to take this effort is excellent because many prestigious universities do not.
ORGANISATIONS
So other than training and placement cell, iiche, Srijan science club (kind of dead) and USS CHESS CLUB (literally one of the most active clubs our college has seen this year, this is something not said by me but by some former aveksha members as well.) I was also honoured to have a position of responsibility in the Alumni Student mentorship program and Techspace. So, Techspace is a technical organisation under the GGSIPU where I research and analyse organisations comparable to Techspace to develop new and innovative ideas and find answers to the organization’s ongoing issues. The development and updating of the alumni database are among the tasks I perform for the USCT alumni organisation. My work entails reaching out to alumni once the database is complete and establishing an “Alumni-Student Mentorship Program” where we pair USCT students with alumni so the students may receive advice from them regarding their career aspirations.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Most of all, I just want to maintain what I have right now, lost some old friends, and made some new ones. so I just want to respect the new individuals I’ve met since my sophomore year, attempt to go forward with a positive outlook and try not to get side-tracked by all the things going on that I can only hear about.
